Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas is a poem in Awadhi, written by the 16th-century Indian poet Goswami Tulsidas. The poem is a retelling of the events of the Sanskrit epic Ramayana, and is centered on the story of Rama, the crown prince of Ayodhya.
The poem is also called Tulsikrit Ramayan, and is said to be the most important work in the Bengali language.
In this poem, Goswami Tulsidas has compared the seven kandas of the Ramayana to the seven steps that lead to the holy waters of a Himalayan lake. The kandas are a series of elegantly structured stanzas, each of which contains a simile, describing the events of the Ramayana.
